KARACHI: Higher Educ
ation Commission (HEC) on Tuesday directed the universities and
degree awarding institutions to ensure implement
ation of the Commission’s decision to raise minimum qualific
ation to 18 years of educ
ation for appointment of lecturers.
In a statement is
sued from Islamabad, HEC urged vice chancellors and rectors to ensure that minimum qualific
ation for the appointment of a lecturer is MPhil/MS or equivalent
degree i.e. 18 years, or Masters from a foreign University. Deadline given for decision’s implement
ation is June 30, 2017.
The universities, which have already adop
ted and implemented the decision have been apprecia
ted and advised to continue implementing the decision.
Moreover, HEC has also extended the cut-off date for raisi
ng minimum qualific
ation of Assistant Professors in universities/
degree awarding institutions to the level of PhD, to January 1, 2018.
